Puppies Puppies (Jade Guanaro Kuriki-Olivo)

Biography

Puppies Puppies (Jade Guanaro Kuriki-Olivo) is a contemporary artist whose multidisciplinary practice encompasses sculpture, installation, and performance art. Her work often addresses personal and political concerns, exploring themes such as identity, transformation, and the human experience. In her 2023 piece, “A Sculpture for Trans Women…,” Kuriki-Olivo created a life-size bronze sculpture based on a 3-D scan of her own body, emblazoned with the word “WOMAN.” This work subverts the traditional power of monuments to make visible and celebrate trans life in an act of protest and commemoration.   In her 2023-2024 exhibition “Nothing New” at the New Museum in New York, she replicated her green bedroom within the museum and lived there during the exhibition, making her most private space public.  Kuriki-Olivo’s art challenges viewers to confront complex issues through immersive and thought-provoking experiences.
