Mercedes Llanos
Mercedes Llanos’ work is deeply influenced by the surreal and the landscape of dreams, exploring themes of femininity, gender, and domesticity within the framework of South American cultural traditions. Her paintings are rich in symbolic language, drawing from her personal experiences and broader societal narratives to depict moments of intensity, intimacy, and violence. Layering paint and unconventional materials, Llanos creates expressive, emotionally charged compositions that blur the boundaries between reality and dreamlike abstraction. Through this process, she confronts the weight of patriarchal structures while celebrating the resilience and complexity of the female experience.
